Simon De Meester is a Belgian design student currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Product Design at ArtEZ, University of Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands.
Simon’s passion for design ignited during his childhood, when he started creating three-dimensional objects, primarily using paper. His early creations included building intricate objects like castles, mazes, and replicas of famous monuments such as the Brussels’ Atomium. As he grew older, he transitioned to working with wood, crafting furniture like log holders, chicken coops, candle holders, and more.
Simon’s educational experience in the multicultural environment of a European school broadened his horizons, with art courses introducing him to various materials, techniques, and mediums, such as photography, clay, painting, and wire art, which kindled his passion for creative expression. This exposure prompted him to venture into clothing design, solidifying his commitment to the world of design.
Driven by his love for creativity, Simon naturally gravitated towards pursuing higher education to transform his passion into a lifelong profession. ArtEZ proved to be the perfect canvas for his artistic journey, offering a multitude of workshops that left no limits on his creative endeavors. During his initial two years at the university, he enjoyed working on projects like Fast Eating cutlery and creating a unique bag. In his third year, he opted to explore shoe design as a minor, particularly enjoying the art of working with leather. Additionally, he experimented with custom streetwear, resulting in one-of-a-kind pieces.
Simon’s work encompasses a variety of materials, from wood to textiles, with a primary focus on Product Design. He takes pride in crafting his creations from scratch, using raw materials such as wood and metal, infusing them with a modern touch.
