Simon De Meester is a Belgian product designer with a Bachelor’s degree from ArtEZ, University of the Arts in Arnhem. His work is rooted in a deep appreciation for nature, materiality, and craft.
From a young age, Simon explored form and structure through hands-on creation, starting with paper models of castles and monuments like the Atomium, later evolving into woodworking projects such as log holders and custom furniture. His multicultural education at the European School Brussels further expanded his creative vocabulary, introducing him to diverse mediums including photography, painting, clay, and textile art.
At ArtEZ, Simon embraced a wide range of disciplines, from fast-eating cutlery and bag design to a shoe design minor and streetwear experiments. In his final year, he developed a refined focus on nature-inspired design, culminating in a graduation project centered on the symbolic and sculptural qualities of flowers while implementing suistaibility.
During his internship with designer Shun Yoon in Antwerp, Simon co-founded a design collective with a fellow intern, leading to their participation in Dutch Design Week 2024 in Eindhoven, where they exhibited at Piet Hein Eek’s venue. This experience deepened his collaborative practice and expanded his material research. He now works closely with a glassblower, has significantly improved his metalworking and welding skills, and continues to explore natural forms through raw materials like metal and wood.
Simon’s design approach is grounded in intuition, material experimentation, and emotional connection. A touch of humour often slips into his work, reflecting his way of seeing the world. He seeks to capture the imperfect beauty of the natural world through objects that feel alive, honest, and poetic.
Simon’s educational journey includes:
- Graduated in June 2025 with a Bachelor’s degree in Product Design from ArtEZ, with a minor in Shoe Design.
- Dutch Design Week 2024
- Earned a European Baccalaureate from EEB1 in 2021, with a focus on Mathematics, Art, and Dutch.
- Participated in a mini-enterprise project in 2019

Kasimir Severinovich Malevich, born in Kiev on February 11, 1879, of Polish parents and died on May 15, 1935, in Leningrad, at the age of 56 from cancer, is one of the first abstract artists of the twentieth century.
I find him very interesting as an artist because he innovates the art world, making things that seem simple and easy from the outside. He is also the creator of the Suprematism artistic movement which is in my opinion one of the most interesting movement.
Andy warhol
Andrew Warhola, known as Andy Warhol, is an American artist, born August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and died February 22, 1987 in New York. He is one of the main representatives of pop art. Warhol is known the world over for his work as a painter, music producer, author, avant-garde films, and his connections with intellectuals, Hollywood celebrities and wealthy aristocrats.
I discovered this artist because of his very controversial work. I find him very interesting because he is not only a good artist in my opinion but also a very good salesman.
Mark Rothko
Mark Rothko, born Marcus Rothkowitz in Daugavpils, September 25, 1903 and
died February 25, 1970, is an American painter classified among the
representatives of American abstract expressionism, but Rothko refused this
categorization considered « alienating ».
I discovered this artist while visiting her exhibit at the Tate modern gallery and I
found his work to be quite impressive as they are quite large and the colors of his
work are both dull and very lively.
